Sick
Let us start with
the meaning of sick, sick is an adjective meaning afflicted with ill health or disease. Sick also means
affected with nausea; inclined to vomit, deeply affected with some unpleasant feeling as sorrow, disgust, or boredom.
Let’s face it; no one likes to be sick. Some people in this world are sick and don’t
even know it. They carry on as if everything is okay. I used to be one of these people
who thought I was okay. I thought I was okay because the environment that I lived in was doing the wrong
things. These wrong things were a way of life and since it was being done by everyone I was around, I thought
it was okay. I didn’t realize until now that the environment I lived in was terrible and sick.
You are wondering, well what was going on?
People were not putting God first. People were not
seeking God’s counsel. When we went to church, we would go to a different church from one another.
There was too much traffic in and out of the house. There were teenage pregnancies and abortions.
People had a different friend every six months. People would get good jobs, but did not want to
work because they were and still are lazy. People had the attitude, I’ll do this for you and I want
you to do this for me. The list goes on. You see nothing has changed, for Ecclesiastes
1:9 says “that which has been is what will be, that which is done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under
the sun.” Things today have just gotten worse.
The most prevalent sickness today
that most think is okay is fornication, having voluntary sex before being married. I saw this growing up
in the household I lived in. You see it on TV. You even see it in churches.
The
next sickness is those who choose to be gay, a lesbian, bisexual, or a transgender. You did not see much
of this growing up because they chose to keep it in the closet. But in today’s society, they want
their sickness to be known to the world. They want to force their lifestyle on everyone to just accept
it. It’s the way of the world. I had written our Senator to voice my concern as
to not allow same sex marriage in the state of Pennsylvania and his response was that he believes in the sanctity of marriage
between a man and a woman, but he has to respect the law of the land (which is the law of man). Wrong
answer Senator. We don’t have to accept it. Thank You Jesus for not allowing the
state of Pennsylvania to accept same sex marriages.
Now let us turn to the Bible to see what God has to say about these sicknesses
and how to be made well. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 “says do you not know that the unrighteous will not
inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters,
nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will
inherit the kingdom of God.” Galatians 5:19-21 says, “now the works of the flesh are evident
which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies,
outburst of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which
I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom
of God.”
What should you do to be made well?
1. Accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Jesus
said, “I tell you the truth, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life.”
John 5:24.
2.
Confess that you
are sick. Psalm 32:5 says David acknowledged his sin to God and confessed his transgressions to the Lord.
3. Ask for forgiveness. Acts 26:18,
God says He will open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they
may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in God.
4. Repent and turn away from the sicknesses and the ways of this world.
Ezekiel 14:6 says “therefore say to the house of Israel, “Thus says the Lord GOD: “Repent, turn away
from your idols, and turn your faces away from all your abominations.”
5. Put God first in all things. Stay
on the straight and narrow path toward Jesus Christ. Turn to Him each day to guide your steps by turning
to His word the Bible.
