DISCONNECT
Disconnect is the word of this season. What do I mean by
disconnect? I’m referring to being disconnected from God.
Let’s first define the word disconnect:
to sever the connection of or between; to terminate a connection; to become detached or withdrawn.
Jesus is our power source and if we don’t
stay connected, our lights will go out. So, how can we stay connected to Christ who is our power source?
The Word of God states in John 15:1-8: “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every
branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear
more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither
can you, unless you abide in Me.
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He
who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If
anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into
the fire, and they are burned.
If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will
ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit;
so you will be My disciples.”
How can we
stay connected? We stay connected to Christ by staying in fellowship with Him through prayer and study.
Have you ever noticed that
when we are disconnected from Christ, we are disconnected from everything else in our lives? We tend to
fumble abound in darkness and are oblivious to all that surrounds us. We begin to believe that we’re
okay and everyone else is messed up. It’s like that old saying, “Can’t see the forest
for the trees!” When our lives are totally disconnected, we become self-righteous and judgmental.
We become the person who will cast the first stone. Matthew 7:3-5, “And why do you look at the speck in your
brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say
to your brother, ‘Let me remove the speck from your eye’; and look, a plank is in your own eye? 5 Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from
your brother’s eye.”
Other times, people don’t even realize that they’re disconnected
from God. So, they end up dying a slow death spiritually and physically because they’re disconnected
from the root. And when they finally realize they’re disconnected, it’s too late!
Have you ever seen when ivy is disconnected from the root? It will seem to strive for awhile, but
eventually it shrivels up, turns brown and dies.
Don’t be like that ivy! Stay connected to Jesus. Abide
in Him, submit to Him, fellowship with Him so you will bear fruit and your joy will remain and be full.
