What really matters in your life?
Is it the job that you have
at a well known company? Is it money? Is it that you have your bachelors, masters, or
doctorate degree? Is it your big house with the garage and white picket fence? Is it
keeping up with the Jones’ for the latest and greatest things?
Now, if you have
all of this, you probably think you are all together and in good shape, right. None of this matters if
you have not repented of your sins, ask for forgiveness, and accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Basically
if God is not being glorified through what you do, then it is meaningless and it doesn’t matter. How
can I say this? I can say this because I have been there with my job. I was just going
through the motions until I realized I am not working for my boss or myself. I am working for the Lord.
Ephesians 6: 5-7, says as a bondservant be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh with fear
and trembling in sincerity of heart as to Christ, not with eye service as men pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing
the will of God from the heart, with good will doing service as to the Lord and not to men.
What really matters in your life?
Is
it money? The scripture says in 1Timothy 6:9-10 those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many
foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and the loss of your soul. The Bible condemns
the desire to get rich, not because having money is a sin, but because money becomes an idol. One begins
to serve money. Understand we can’t serve two masters, therefore serving money means you are not
serving God, for the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from faith in their greediness,
and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
What really matters
in your life?
Is it the degree or degrees you have? When asked so what do you do,
people will say I have a degree in this and now I work for so and so. Now I am not saying that having degrees
is a bad thing, but when God has not been glorified in you going to school to earn your degree, then you are missing out on
a relationship with God. You probably are struggling trying to earn that degree because God is not first
in your life.
What really matters in your life?
Is it your big house
with the garage and white picket fence or are you trying to keep up with the Jones’ to have the latest and greatest.
All of this stuff and things are meaningless without Jesus. See having things are temporary.
You can’t take anything with you when you pass. 2Corinthians 4:18 tells us that while we do
not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen, for the things which are seen are temporary,
but the things which are not seen are eternal. Our goal here on earth should not be to see all the things
we can store up on earth, we should be putting God first and seeking His kingdom and righteousness. Just
as it says in Matthew 6: 33 seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
The Lord doesn’t want us investing in things that have no value. He wants us to invest in
His people. In Matthew 28: 19, Jesus said, “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations baptizing
them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”
So I ask, what really matters
in your life? The answer is nothing matters but Jesus. The people who have confessed
Christ should be drawing the lost and unsaved to God and God will do the rest to shape and mold His people into the likeness
of Jesus Christ.
